Congrats, Dr. Karp! |
Kate Honored (summer, fall 2017)
Kate gave the William and Carylin Reeburgh lecture at the fall AGU meeting (sponsored by the Biogeosciences section). In addition, she was awarded the Treibs Medal from the Geochemical Society in September at the IMOG meeting, in Florence, Italy. The Treibs is the top award in the discipline, and Kate is both exceedingly grateful and totally delighted by the honor. |
Dr. Elizabeth Denis Heads to PNNL (7/16)
Congratulations to Elizabeth, who has completed her Ph.D. requirements, and walked the big stage as a newly minted Doctor! She is headed to Pacific Northwest National Labs, where she will join our own Jim Moran, to work on soil biogeochemistry, novel analytical tools, and homeland security-related research. We will miss you and we wish you every success, Elizabeth! |
Allison Karp Recognized by GSA and PSU Geosciences (5/16)
Congratulations to Allison, who was recognized by the department with the Charles Knopf, and the Krynine awards. She also earned national recognition with the Charles A. and June R.P. Ross Research Award from the Geological Society of America. Congrats!! |

Kate is deeply honored and so very grateful to all of our group members through the years-- THANK YOU! |
Christine Doman completes her MS (7/15) and heads to Utah
Congratulations to Christine for successfully completing her MS thesis, "Stable Isotope and Lipid Signatures of Plants Across a Climate Gradient." Christine studied grasses across a the Kohala Peninsula, Hawaii, and found some rather surprising things about C4 vegetation. Christine has recently accepted a position with Friends of Alta Land Trust. We wish her every success! Angela Chung completes her MS (12/14)
Congratulations to Angela who successfully completed and defended her MS thesis, "Evaluation of Variability in Soil Organic Carbon Isotope Record and Implications for Organic Matter Preservation." Angela refined methods for isotopic analyses of small amounts of carbon in ancient soils, and suggested excessive respiratory carbon loss may have caused the PETM isotope excursion in soil carbon to be smaller than in other reservoirs. |
Major Milestones for Laurence, Heather and Elizabeth (Fall/13)
Several of group members passed major milestones in the fall semester. Laurence and Elizabeth both passed the comprehensive exam, and now are happily ABD, at last.
